Naya Shakti, Federal Socialist Forum to merge soon

KATHMANDU — Naya Shakti Nepal (NSN) party and Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN) have reached an agreement for party unification, according to a press statement jointly issued by the two parties on Thursday.

The parties have formed a Party Unification Coordination Committee (PUCC) to expedite the unification process that comprises NSN coordinator Baburam Bhattarai, SSFN Chaorman Upendra Yadav and SSFN senior leader Ashok Rai.

“Party Unification Coordination Committee (PUCC) has been reached to take the unification process to a conclusion”, reads the press release jointly signed by the chiefs of the two parties.

Both the parties have also urged the government to create an environment for the elections by addressing the demands put forth by the Sanghiya Gathabandhan, UNited Democratic Madhesi Front and 68-party joint struggle committee.

Tiger kills translocated Arna in CNP

CHITWAN — A tiger has killed one of the Arnas (wild water buffaloes) — which recently trans-located from Koshi Tappu Wild Life Reserve (KTWR) — in Padampur region of the Chitwan National Park (CNP), on Tuesday.

A monitoring team at the CNP found that an adult female Arna was killed in its enclosure after an attack by the tiger yesterday, as per CNP Chief Protection Officer Ramchandra Kandel.

Pathak said, the preliminary investigation shows that the tiger had entered the enclosure through the point which was repaired in the aftermath of the destruction caused by the monsoon floods. He added that the big cat had used the same opening to get out of the enclosure.

A team headed to the spot for postmortem, found the half-devoured carcass of the water buffalo at the distance of 60 metres into a bush. The team also traced tiger in the vicinity which was later chased away.

A herd of 12 water buffaloes were translocated to the CNP from the KTWR. Two female buffalos had died in the aftermath of flood disaster on September 2 and 10. Now, there are only nine buffaloes left in the CNP.
