Yet another teenage girl raped in Kanchanpur

KANCHANPUR — At a time when the local people are protesting the rape and subsequent murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta in Kanchanpur, another teenager has been raped in Beldaandi Rural Municipality of the district.

A 16 years old girl of Beldandi Rural Municipality-1 was allegedly raped on Thursday night, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Krishnaraj Ojha, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Kanchanpur.

Reportedly, the victim was attending a puja (worship) at her home when a friend phoned her. Four friends of the victim then had come to meet her and one of her friends allegedly raped her, according to the preliminary investigation.

The boys came on a motorcycle and called the girl outside her home through phone. When she came out, she was forcefully taken to a place called Jabda, four kilometers away from her house.

As per the statement of the victim, all four boys ran away after raping her.

“We are yet to ascertain if it is a case of gang rape or a single person committed the crime,” DSP Ojha said adding, “The victim is under police protection following medical tests.”

The victim told the police that she can identify two of the perpetrators, as she knows them. Police have expedited search for all four perpetrators who are currently at large.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at the nearby health institution and is fine., according to police.

Dolpa Ward Chairman held on charge of idol theft





DOLPA — Karma Gurung, Chairman of Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality-5 in Upper Dolpa, was arrested on charge of idol theft from Kathmandu. A team of police personnel from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested Gurung from Bauddha in the capital city.

Police said that Ward Chairman Karma was held for allegedly stealing Buddha idols from Rahap Monastery situated in She-Phoksundo Rural Municipality-4.

Gurung, an independent candidate, was elected the ward chair in the recent local level elections but later joined the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) after the unification of two communist parties.

Likewise, Ukren Pasang Gurung, 41, and Pasang Lundup Gurung of She-phoksundo Rural Municipality; Jhyampachhuldim Lama, 41, and Tshering Dawa Gurung, 43, of Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality were also held from a special team of CIB.

Asked about the arrest of ward chairman, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Dolpa District Police Office Awadesh Bista confirmed Karma Gurung’s arrest on charge of idol theft and added that further investigations were ongoing.

A total of 42 Buddha’s idols were stolen from Rahap Monastery some eight years ago but the locals had noticed the issue just some four months ago.
