UPDATE : 7 dead as bus plunges into Trishuli

CHITWAN — Seven persons died on the spot after a passenger bus plunged into the Trishuli River in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 along the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan district on Wednesday morning.

The ill-feted bus (Lu 2 Kha 291) heading towards Arghakhanchi from Kathmandu collided head-on with a truck (Na 6 Kha 4972) before plunging about 100 meters into the river, at Fishling, at around 9:15 am this morning, according to Chitwan District Police Office.

Twenty-five others were rescued alive. Three of the rescued passengers have been rushed to Kathmandu while thirteen others have been taken to Bharatpur for treatment.

Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police teams from Munglin, Jogimara and Gajuri are carrying out the rescue operation.

APF divers found the bus 25 feet below the water surface and preparations is underway to pull the bus out with a crane.

DPM Pokharel gets responsibility of Officiating PM





KATHMANDU — Ahead of his visit to the People’s Republic of China, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has given the responsibility of the Officiating PM to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Ishwar Pokharel.

PM Oli, who is also the chairman of Nepal Communist Party (CPN), is leaving here for China today.

Similarly, Oli has appointed party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as the officiating chairman of CPN, according to CPN central committee member Bishnu Rijal. Currently, another chairman of CPN Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is out of the country.

Likewise, deputy parliamentary party leader of CPN Subas Chandra Nembang has got the responsibility of officiating parliamentary party leader in the absence of parliamentary party leader and PM Oli.
