KATHMANDU —General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa of the CPN-Maoist on Saturday removed Chairman Mohan Baidya to take over party reins and decided to begin the unification process with the UCPN (Maoist).
Holding a separate central committee meeting, Thapa, who claimed to have the support of more than two thirds of CC members, formed a new party and decided to begin the unification process with like-minded parties including the UCPN-Maoist.
Pampha Bhusal, a party spokesperson and a leader close to Thapa, said that the party decided to designate [Thapa] as the new chairperson after efforts to convince Baidya on plan to merge CPN-Maoist with the mother party failed.
The party has also formally endorsed the new chairman’s 13-point proposal for its unification with the UCPN (Maoist).
Earlier this week, Thapa had reached an understanding with Dahal for unification between the CPN-Maoist and UCPN (Maoist), which had parted ways in June 2012.Follow @gorkhapost
