KATHMANDU — Police have fired multiple rounds of teargas shells after supporters of Nepali Congress-affiliated Tarun Dal tried to breach the restricted area in New Baneshwor on Saturday.
The protest rally was carried out in support of medical activist Dr Govinda KC, who has been staging fast-onto-death at teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj demanding reforms in the medical sector.
Dr KC’s key demands include passing Medical Education Ordinance brought by the Sher Bahadur Deuba government as Medical Education Bill without making any changes.
Nepali Congress parliamentarian Gagan Thapa, Sushila Karki, popular Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Shyam Shrestha, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Karishma Manandhar along with others are participating in the rally.
Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, political commentator Khagendra Sangraula, human rights activist Krishna Pahari, and leaders of opposition political parties, among others were also present at the rally.
PM congratulates Nepali national cricket team
KATHMANDU— Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated Nepali national cricket team for being able to clinch the International T20 series.
PM Oli in a tweet extended best wishes and congratulations saying he was very happy to know Nepal’s win over the UAE by 14 runs in the third match of the series.
Winning T20 series is another landmark success for Nepali cricket, he said, adding, “It is big achievement for Nepal’s cricket. I would like to heartily congratulate entire members of Nepali cricket squad”.
