LAHAN—Six persons along with 1.757 kgs of gold has been arrested by armed police force team from Ghurmi bridge in ward no. 1 of Golbazaar Municipality.
They were arrested during a regular checking of a Jeep with Indian registration number BR32PA4644 on its way to Kathmandu.
According to DSP Ajaya Chattkulli, Mohammad Riyaj,32, Mohammad Hakim,42, Mohammad Amirul,28, Mohammad Rehman,24, and Kaiyun Rahim,45, of Lahan municipality-19 in the district and Mohammad Afroj,18, of ward no. 3 of Khadka municipality in Saptari district were arrested.
Driver Riyaj was arrested with four sets of bangles and three raw pieces of the yellow metal while Amirul and Kaiyum possessed one bangle each. Police also found Rs. 34,500 in cash and six sets of mobile telephones from them.
Further investigation is underway to find the origin of the yellow metal and necessary action against those arrested for holding it illegally.Follow @gorkhapost
NC leader Regmi passes away
KATHMANDU— Nepali Congress leader Keshab Regmi, who contributed to restoring democracy in 1990, has passed away on Thursday night.
Regmi, who was suffering from respiratory problems for long, died at his residence in Gongabu in Kathmandu. Regmi, who also served as secretary of NC, Kaski, played an important role in establishing Nepal Students’ Union, the student wing of the NC.
He was also sent to jail five times for fighting to restore democracy. He is survived by two wives.
His last rites were conducted at Pashupati Aryaghat today itself. People from various walks of life and NC leaders attended his funeral rite.
On the occasion, NC President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel and General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala paid tribute to Regmi by draping his body in the party flag.Follow @gorkhapost
