Rhododendron Festival at Ghumte on New Year 2074

BAGLUNG — A Rhododendron Festival is being organised on the occasion of the Nepali New Year 2074 BS here at Ghumte of Baglung district — a mesmerizing tourist destination located 3,120 meters above sea level.

The Galkot Travel Tourism Development Centre is organizing the Rhododendron Festival from April 13 to 14. The Centre has been holding the festival on the occasion of New Year annually for the past four years.

Centre’s Chairman Jhanka Bahadur Basnet said the festival is being held for promoting tourism in Lek Ghumte and for conservation of national flower ‘Laligunrash’ or ‘rhododendron’.

The Centre has even demanded with the government to declare Ghumte ‘Laligunrash Hill’ and to announce Baisakh 1, the New Year day in Nepal, as ‘National Rhododendron Day’.

“We have been holding rhododendron festival in Ghumte during the season when the flower blossoms to attract tourists,” Centre’s Chair Basnet said. “We believe the festival will contribute towards Ghumte’s tourism development and its promotion,” he added.

The festival will also feature observation tours, art and cultural performances, sunset and sunrise observation tours, camp fire and other entertainments.

4th Mountain Festival marked

POKHARA — The 4th Mountain Festival 2017 was organised at International Mountain Museum in Pokhara to mark the International Mountain Day.

The United Nations has recognized December 11 as the International Mountain Day. The theme for the day for this was: Mountains Under Pressure: Climate, Hunger and Migration.

Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has organised the the two-day-long event in coordination with Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board, ICIMOD, USAID, and NMA Annapurna Chapter.

The event includes several exhibition stalls representing lifestyle and cultures of mountains, according to Santa Bir Lama, president of NMA.

Lama said John Reinhard from the US was awarded Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal for his contribution in the field of mountaineering during the event.
