KATHMANDU — A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) on Friday unanimously endorsed the name of Ayodhi Prasad Yadav as the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).
According to the constitutional provision, the President appoints Chief Election Commissioner following the endorsement by the PHSC based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Committee.
The PHSC’s approval has paved the way for appointing Yadav to the top post at the Election Commission. Yadav is currently the Acting Chief Election Commissioner.
Two complaints were filed against Yadav at the Committee, arguing that Yadav’s parliamentary hearing should not be held until the writ filed against his reappointment at the Supreme Court was decided upon.
On December 28, 2015, the Constitutional Council had recommended officiating Chief Election Commissioner Yadav to lead the Election Commission.Follow @gorkhapost
