Notorious criminal Manoj Pun killed in police encounter

RUPANDEHI — Notorious criminal Manoj Pun has been killed in an encounter with the police in Devdaha of Rupandehi early Wednesday morning, police said.

Along with Pun, his aid Som Ale also killed in the firing, Rupandehi SP Shyam Gyawali said. Both succumbed to their injuries at Lumbini Zonal Hospital while undergoing treatment.

According to the police, Pun was the main accused in the murder case of Youth Force leader Durga Tiwari. Tiwari was shot dead in Rupandehi district. He was also allegedly involved in the recent murder of businessman Sharad Gauchan.

Pun along with his aide Som Bahadur Ale was shot at after the duo opened fired at and tried to escape the police, the police said.

Three arrested with tiger hides

KATHMANDU- The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Tuesday arrested three persons in possession of tiger hides.

The CIB said that Man Bahadur Tamang of Shailung Rural Municipality in Dolakha; Lokmaya Gurung of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha district and Amar Singh of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in Saptari district were arrested from Budhanilkantha in the capital city acting on a tip off about their involvement in smuggling of animals’ hides and skeleton.

All three have been sent to the Division Forests Office, Kathmandu for further actions. According to the Superintendent of Police Sudip Giri, the alleged would be booked as per the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973 and CITES Convention, 1975.
