Govt committed to develop Tarai region : PM Oli

JANAKPUR — Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to revolutionize and modernize the agriculture sector in Province 2.

Addressing the the provincial assembly of Province 2 in Janakpur on Saturday, PM Oli said that doing so would help to increase production by as much as four times.

On the occasion, PM Oli said that he is committed to develop Tarai region of Nepal.

He also expressed the federal government’s commitment to bring necessary changes and support the provincial government to meet its goals and urged provincial ministers and parliamentarians to put forward favorable plans and policies to modernize agriculture, one of the major sources of employment in the country.

PM Oli said that a ship that will leave from Nepal to Kolkata of India will be operated from Province 2 He further said that the ship will be operated from three rivers of Nepal soon.

He further said that the Postal Highway will be completed within the next five years. Stating that he has a good relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM Oli said that the relationship between two countries would be strengthened further.

Oli also highlighted the benefits of cross border connectivity through trains and highways that would help to strengthen trade relationships with both the neighbors while increasing people-to-people relationship.

As soon as the meeting began at Province Assembly, Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) lawmakers Bisheshwor Prasad Yadav, Upendra Mahato and Gauri Narayan Sah boycotted the meeting and walked out of the hall.

176 trafficked Nepalis rescued from Indo-Myanmar border

KATHMANDU — At least 176 Nepali men and women, who were being trafficked into Myanmar, have been rescued by Manipur police and activists from different parts of Manipur, a northeastern state of India, in the last two days.

On their second day of rescue operation, the Tengnoupal police have rescued atleast 20 Nepalis including 5 women and 15 men, from a Hotel in Moreh town,Imphal Free Press, an English-language daily published from Manipur has reported.

The Moreh police have rescued as many as 60 nationals of Nepal including 45 women and 15 men.

Earlier, over 105 Nepali women were rescued from Moreh and Imphal, the report stated.

The police team have also arrested the main suspect in the trafficking case identified as Madan Kumar Kharel, 52, Hailing from 07 Prithvinagar, Jhapa, Nepal.

The accused is reportedly responsible for bringing 20 of the 40 Nepali girls who were rescued from Moreh on Friday.

Meanwhile, Police also rescued 51 Nepalis from Imphal including 38 women and 13 men during Saturday rescue operations.
