Nepal team for ACC Emerging Nations Cup announced

KATHMANDU — The Nepal national cricket team has been announced for the ACC Emerging Nations Cup scheduled for March 25 to April 4 in Bangladesh.

A three-member selection team comprising ICC-Asia Cricket Development Officer Venkatapathy Raju, Nepal head coach Jagat Tamatta and skipper Khadka had made the selection.

Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla will lead the 15-member team after captain Paras Khadka withdrew from the tournament citing his health condition.

Other members in the team are Sharad Vesawkar (Vice-Captain),Binod Bhandari, Sagar Pun, Md. Arif Sheikh, Mahaboob Alam, Dipendra Sing Airee, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mahamad Asif Sheikh, Avinash Karn, Sunil Dhamala, Bhuwan Karki, Sushan Bhari, Dipesh Shrestha and  Dilip Nath.

Likewise, four reserve players —  Kushal Bhurtel, Jitendra Kumar Mukhiya, Rajesh Pulami Magar and Sushil Kandel — have also been named:

Nepal’s National team, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Afghanistan and the U-23 teams from the four Test-playing nations of the region — India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh — are taking part in the event.

RJPN splits in its anniversary, disgruntled leaders form new party

KATHMANDU — A dissatisfied leaders of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJPN) including Vice Chairman Ashok Kumar Yadav announced on Friday that they have quit the party to form a new party under his leadership.

Organising a press conference at the Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Friday, Yadav and 32 other members left the party and announced a new party named Rastriya Janta Party (Loktantrik). According to which Ashok Kumar Yadav is appointed as a coordinator, Ritesh Kumar Singh, deputy coordinator and Jeevan Shah as general secretary.

Subash Chandari Biraji and Jeevan Sah have been appointed as General Secretaries in the 11-member ad hoc committee while Sadhana Yadav and Lakki Sharma as Secretaries, Madhu Maya Yadav as Treasurer and Dipendra Yadav as spokesperson.

Likewise, Dharma Raj Gupta, Bipana Acharya and Sambhu Pandit are the members of central ad hoc committee.

Coordinator Yadav accused the party leadership of remaining indifferent in piling pressure on the government to amend the constitution.

Saying that Madhes is still lagging behind in terms of development, Yadav said the Rastriya Janata Party (Democratic) will focus its activities on development.

LAst year on the same day on April 20, 2017,six Madhes-based parties — Mahantha Thakur-led Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhawana Party, Mahendra Yadav-led Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party, Sharat Singh Bhandari-led Rastriya Madhes Samajbadi Party and Rajkishor Yadav-led Madhesi Janadhikar Forum- Ganatantrik and Anil Jha-led Nepal Sadbhawana Party– had announced their unification to form Rastirya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN).
