KATHMANDU — The government has decided to provide legal services for the legal security of the Nepalis languishing in foreign jails, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
A meeting presided over by Labour Minister Gokarna Bista who is also the Chairman of Foreign Employment Promotion Board has decided to provide legal service through Nepali Embassy.
Some 528 Nepalis are languishing in foreign jails, the Ministry said.
“Nepalis are doing their time in foreign jails due to lack of legal security”, Bista said. “The state should protect those citizens. We are working seriously for the same,” he added.
The meeting has also decided to appoint staffers who are well known about local people, law and language of the concerned countries.
The board has formed a task force to fix the standard to provide legal service which, after holding discussion with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will fix standard within seven days.
The Board, in a bid to ease the family members of the Nepali migrant workers, has also decided to provide service from the province and local level.
A high-level committee has been formed under the headship of the secretary of Labour Ministry for the same.Follow @gorkhapost
5 injured in Panchthar accident
PANCHTHAR — At least five persons have sustained injuries in an accident that took place at Falelung Rural Municipality-6 in Panchthar district on Saturday evening.
The injured were identified as Ward Chair Sujata Bantawa, Director at Deep Jyoti Youth Club, Sunil Bantawa, club members, Dipak Rai and Raj Kumar Rai and driver Ramesh Rai, according to police.
All injured have been taken to Panchthar District Hospital for treatment.
Slippery road condition caused by the rain led to the accident, police informed.Follow @gorkhapost
