KATHMANDU — The government on Sunday decided to gift two pairs of one-horned rhinoceros to China.
A Cabinet meeting on Sunday held at Baluwatar this morning decided to gift two pairs of rhinos as gift to China.
In January, Forest Minister Agni Sapkota had said that the Chinese side had showed interest for a pair of the rhinos as gift.
In exchange for the rhinos, according to Sapkota, the Chinese side has agreed to provide financial and technical assistant for the proposed Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhaktapur, assist in establishing an international center on community forests.
As per a recent census, there are 645 rhinos in Nepal. Of the total, 605 of them are in Chitwan National Park. The rhinos to be gifted to China will also be selected from the park.
The meeting also deiced to form team led by Chief District Officer in five districts to investigate the property seized by the Maoist rebels during the armed conflict.
The meeting has also decided to appoint former Secretary Madhav Paudel as the Chairman of Nepal Law Commission.Follow @gorkhapost
Nirmala Panta’s murder accused held after 24 days
KANCHANPUR — Police in Kanchanpur have made public an accused arrested in connection with the murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur’s Bhimdatta Municipality.
Dilip Singh Bista, 41, of Baghphanta, Bhimdatta Municipality was made public at a press conference at the DPO. Bista was arrested on Saturday,according to the District Police Office Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Bahadur Sethi.
Nirmala was found dead in a sugarcane field on July 27, a day after she had gone to her friend’s home to get a notebook.
Bista,who was released from prison last year after serving nine years for murdering his brother-in-law Narayansingh Thapa, works as a daily-wage labourer.
According to Bista’s statement to police, he helped Nirmala fix her bicycle chain before raping and killing her on July 26. He told police that killed her to avoid being arrested again.Follow @gorkhapost
