KATHMANDU — Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been elected the parliamentary party leader, defeating the party’s senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel.
Deuba garnered 139 votes while his rival Paudel received only 67 votes. The largest party in the Parliament has 207 members.
Total 206 votes were cast and none was declared invalid as the party had used electronic voting machine. Lawmaker from Kathmandu-5 Narahari Acharya could not cast his vote as he is bedridden for last two months.
Votes were cast through an electronic voting machine. The voting began from 11 am and ended at 2 pm today.
The post was vacant since February 9 when the then party President and PP leader Sushil Koirala died.
PM congratulates Nepali national cricket team
KATHMANDU— Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has congratulated Nepali national cricket team for being able to clinch the International T20 series.
PM Oli in a tweet extended best wishes and congratulations saying he was very happy to know Nepal’s win over the UAE by 14 runs in the third match of the series.
Winning T20 series is another landmark success for Nepali cricket, he said, adding, “It is big achievement for Nepal’s cricket. I would like to heartily congratulate entire members of Nepali cricket squad”.
