Beni-Jomsom road to be shut for eight hours from Friday

MYAGDI — Beni-Jomsom road will be shut for eight hours from Friday to accelerate the upgrading task, said the District Administration Office (DAO).

A meeting of transport entrepreneurs, local body representatives, contractors and project officials, in coordination with the DAO, held on Tuesday evening took a decision to this effect.

As per the schedule, the road section will be shut from 7:30 to 11:30 in the morning, and 2:30 to 6:30 in the afternoon.

Chief District Officer Krishna Prasad Adhikari said, “The road closure move was taken to complete the project in time.”

“The upgrading task of the 76-kilometer road was underway into various four sections for the past six months. Under the upgrading work, the road will be blacktopped,” said Indra Singh Sherchan, supervisor for the Sharma Gajurmukhi JV, one of the contractors.

Sharma United JV is working on Galeshwor-Bhurung-Tatopani road whereas Sharma Gajurmukhi JV has been contracted to reconstruct Tatopani-Kobang road section, according to a project official.

Attempted murder case filed against policeman throwing acid on woman

CHITWAN — A case under attempted murder has been filed against a Sub-Inspector of Police who allegedly threw acid on a woman.

ASI Ramchandra Khaniya, posted at the Temporary Traffic Post, Tandi Sunday threw acid on Kalpana Shrestha residing in a rented room at Trichowk of Bharatpur Metropolis-4.

Her spouse Kishan Shrestha, 30, of Bharatpur Metropolis-12, a Nepalese Army, has filed a case against the 51-year-old accused, claiming that the attack was intentional and made with a desire to kill the woman.

Deputy Superintendent of Police said the investigations in detail against the case will start from today. Kabita, 30, is undergoing treatment at the Bharatpur Hospital. She suffers injuries to her ear, eye, chest and legs.

According to Kabita, the accused had been following her for a long time. The Shrestha couple had in the past filed a complaint against him at the police as she was getting telephone calls and threats from him.
