KATHMANDU — Nepal has registered a historic win against India after winning by 19 runs in ACC U-19 Asia Cup at Malaysia on Sunday.
Captain Dipendra Singh Airee shone with both bat and ball as Nepal defeated India for the first time in its cricketing history in the match played at Kinrara Academy Oval in Malaysia.
Airee scored 88 and returned to take four wickets for his side to secure the win.
Losing the toss and batting first, Nepal had posted a 186-run target to India. India, the Asian cricketing powerhouse, however, could score only 166 runs in 48.1 overs.
Dipendra hit two sixes and six boundaries from 101 balls but saw his partners returning cheaply to the pavilion on the other side while Jitendra Singh on 36 and Bhim Sarki on 15 were the only other major contributors for Nepal.
Abhishek Sharma and Aditya Thakare took two wickets for India. Vivekanand Tiwary, Mandeep Singh, Shiva Singh and Atharva Taide had one each to their name.
Airee has been declared the man of the match.
Nepal, on Saturday, had lost its opening match against Bangladesh by two wickets. Now Nepal will face the hosts on Tuesday.Follow @gorkhapost
