8 cops hurt as explosive goes off in APF battalion

TANAHUN —Eight Armed Police Force (APF) personnel were injured after a grenade went off at the explosive storage room of the APF Manakamana Battalion in Bhanu Municipality-2 of Tanahun district on Sunday.

The injured have been identified Sobhakar Rijal, Prem Singh, Prem Gharti Magar, Dipesh Kumar Chaudhary, Yam Bahadur Thapa, Deepak Khadka, Dhirendra Chand and Hum Bahadur Rana, according to Inspector Gajendra Kumar Chaudhary of the Area Police Office, Bhanu.

Among the injured, Dipesh, Yam and Sobhakar are said to be in critical condition.

Critically injured have been taken to Kathmandu on a Nepal Army helicopter for further treatment.

One-year national youth leadership studies programme concludes





JANAKPUR—The first academic session of one-year national youth leadership studies programme has been completed.

The one-year course titled “Nepali Emerging Leaders Programme” jointly launched by the US-based Joan B Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice- University of San Diego and the Kathmandu-based Leadership Academy last January from Kathmandu concluded today at Janakpur.

The programme was conducted in the mountainous, hilly and the Tarai regions subsequently. The second phase of programme was held in Dolakha (mountainous region), the third round in Chisapani of Kaski (hilly region) and the convocation ceremony (graduation) was held in Janakpur( Terai region) of province 2.

A total of 21 youths representing the seven provinces in the country had participated in the programme.

Young political leaders, activists, social leaders and local-level representatives from 25 -40 years of age group were selected for the programme aimed at further enhancing the leadership quality among the Nepali emerging leaders, according to organisers.
