6 dead as bus plunges into Trishuli River

CHITWAN — Six persons died on the spot and 15 other were injured after a passenger bus plunged into the Trishuli River in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality-3 along the Prithvi Highway in Chitwan district on Wednesday morning.

The ill-feted bus (Lu 2 Kha 291) heading towards Arghakhanchi from Kathmandu collided head-on with a truck (Na 6 Kha 4972) before plunging about 100 meters into the river, at Fishling, at around 9:15 am this morning, according to Chitwan District Police Office.

It is yet to establish the identities of the deceased passengers, police said.

Five of the injured have been rushed to a health institution in Kathmandu while other are sent to a hospital in Bharatpur.

A joint team from the police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force have been carrying out the rescue efforts at the incident site.

Three arrested with tiger hides





KATHMANDU- The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Tuesday arrested three persons in possession of tiger hides.

The CIB said that Man Bahadur Tamang of Shailung Rural Municipality in Dolakha; Lokmaya Gurung of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha district and Amar Singh of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in Saptari district were arrested from Budhanilkantha in the capital city acting on a tip off about their involvement in smuggling of animals’ hides and skeleton.

All three have been sent to the Division Forests Office, Kathmandu for further actions. According to the Superintendent of Police Sudip Giri, the alleged would be booked as per the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973 and CITES Convention, 1975.
