4 hurt as bomb goes off targeting NC’s election meeting

ITAHARI — At least four persons have been seriously injured when a bomb went off targeting the election corner meeting organized by the Nepali Congress at Bhaladami Tol of Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-9, Sunsari district this afternoon.

Those injured in the incident include one-year-old Yuban Neupane, 17-year-old Samrina Adhikari, her mother Nirmala, 37, and Nepali Congress local leader Dhana Bahadur Shrestha, a local Govinda Ghimire said.

The bomb blast took place when the NC Itahari-9 was conducting the door-to-door election campaign at the place, according to Ghimire.

The injured have been taken to the Neuro Hospital, Biratnagar. They have sustained deep cuts caused by the shrapnel. The people assembled for the programme ran away after the bomb exploded with a loud bang.

The Area Police Office said it is not known who planted the bomb. Police have cordoned off the area now for investigation.

Three arrested with tiger hides





KATHMANDU- The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) on Tuesday arrested three persons in possession of tiger hides.

The CIB said that Man Bahadur Tamang of Shailung Rural Municipality in Dolakha; Lokmaya Gurung of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality in Gorkha district and Amar Singh of Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in Saptari district were arrested from Budhanilkantha in the capital city acting on a tip off about their involvement in smuggling of animals’ hides and skeleton.

All three have been sent to the Division Forests Office, Kathmandu for further actions. According to the Superintendent of Police Sudip Giri, the alleged would be booked as per the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973 and CITES Convention, 1975.
