KATHMANDU — Police has arrested Chudamani Upreti aka Gore, the alleged mastermind behind 33 kg gold smuggling case.
He will be made public amid a press meet this afternoon, police said. Police sources said that Gore was arrested on Monday but did not reveal from where he was arrested.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on January 5, 2017 had confiscated 33kg gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). But the gold mysteriously disappeared from Kathmandu before reaching its intended destination.
The smuggling case drew much public attention after the murder of Sanam Shakya, an alleged porter of the smmuggled gold. Shakya was tortured to death in Urlabari on March 2 and his body was recovered from a vehicle (Ba 12 Cha 5963) in Biratnagar the following day. Police said electric shock was the cause of Shakya’s death.
Gore, son of a former police official, who originally hails from Urlabari municipality, Morang, is a mastermind behind the 33 kg gold smuggling.
The District Attorney’s Office, Morang, has filed a charge sheet at the Morang District Court against 63 suspects.
2 killed, 5 injured in tractor accident
HETAUDA — Two persons were killed and five others were seriously injured after a tractor fell off the road last evening at Panchpandav village in Bagmati Rural Municipality-4, Makawanpur.
Police said that 50-year-olds Hem Kumar Shrestha and Bakhat Rai of Hariharpur Rural Municipality in Sindhuli district lost their lives in the fatal accident.
Shrestha died on the spot while Rai breathed his last on the way to a hospital in Hetauda, police added. The tractor (Na 6 Ta 442) was heading to Sindhuli district from Phawarbari in Makawanpur by supplying construction materials.
Those seriously hurt in the incident are Shivamaya Magar, Shakti Rai, Mohan Rai, Krishna Rai and Tilak Rai. The incident site is near Makawanpur-Sindhuli border along Dharan-Chatara road section.
