3 buried in Gorkha landslide

GORKHA — At least three persons have been buried by a landslide that hit Kerauja VDC in the district on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at 11 am today. Three others were rescued by the locals.

They were buried by the landslide while they were repairing a road damaged by landslide.

Chinmaya Gurung, 30, Sandip Ghale, 15, and Kanchi Maya Gurung, 45, died in the landslide, acording to DSP Birendra Thapa.

Punge Gurung, 40, Ukal Gurung and Sukaram Ghale, 12, are rescued. The condition of Ghale is said to be critical.

The injured are brought to Machi Khola health post for treatment.

The landslide area is situated at a remote part of the district which has hampered rescue efforts.

Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta informed the district administration is preparing to inform the Home Ministry about the incident and ask for a chopper to rescue the injured.

4 held with illegal pharmaceutical drugs

SUNSARI — Police have arrested four people in possession of illegal pharmaceutical drugs at Dharan on Sunday.

Albert Gurung and Anish Tamang of Munal Chowk in Dharan-10, Nawaraj Gurung of Dharan-15 and Arun Chaudhary of Khanar in Itahari-11 were arrested on charge of smuggling and selling the illegal pharmaceutical drugs, according to the police.

The police arrested the accused during a routine check at Dharan-based Tinkune checkpost. The police have also recovered 630 ampules of nitrazepam, 140 ampules of nitrasone and seven bottles of dilex from the detainees.

The arrestees have been kept under the police custody for further investigation.
